Materials Testing and Evaluation (MT&E) is certified by the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Laboratories, based on the laboratory compliance with NELAC standards and Florida Administrative Code 64E-1 to determine lead concentrations in drinking water. The laboratory operates a Perkin Elmer Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer with a graphite furnace to test potable water samples collected at school sites by the M-DCPS Division of Safety and Emergency Management in order to ensure that the water consumed by students and employees is within federal guidelines. In addition, the laboratory had participated and successfully passed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proficiency testing for the analysis of lead in paint and provides the service to M-DCPS when requested. MT&E also has the capability of performing gas chromatographic analysis of groundwater samples obtained from monitoring wells located around over one hundred underground storage tanks throughout M-DCPS. The groundwater is analyzed for diesel fuel and gasoline constituents in an attempt to detect and clean up groundwater contamination before the contamination has spread. |
